Job Title: Research Associate – Microbiology
Location: US-IA-Des Moines
Position Overview
The Research Associate will be responsible for research and development in molecular biology and innovation of new concepts, including all experimental design, feasibility determination, execution, and analysis. The candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, and microbiology.

- Select, plan, and apply research techniques, procedures, or methodologies to complete tasks
- Investigate, create, and develop new methods and technologies for new project advancement
- Kemin Microbiology Job Focus and prioritize projects and assume responsibility for their success
- Maintain detailed and organized lab notebooks and research files
- Write experimental protocols and prepare reports for internal and external publications
- Develop documents in compliance with the Product Innovation Process
- Actively participate in identifying research areas that could lead to the development of new products
- Have a collaborative attitude and work closely with other R&D Scientists to ensure that new technologies are developed in an efficient and timely fashion
What we require of you:
- M.S. in microbiology, protein engineering, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field OR a Bachelors and 3+ years of experience
- Experience in recombinant protein expression, subcloning, enzyme assay development, microbial isolation and culture
- Experience in protein purification using a variety of methods (e.g. affinity, SEC, ion exchange), and instrumentation (FPLC, HPLC, AKTA).
- Kemin Microbiology Job Expertise in the characterization of DNA and protein preparations using Sanger Sequencing, SDS-PAGE, Spectrophotometer
- Expertise in design, execution, and troubleshooting of purification processes.
- Demonstrate proficiency at data reporting, interpretation, and trending.
Keep abreast with relevant technical developments and actively solicit/pursue ideas from all sources, including academia, competitive intelligence and up-to-date literature. - Initiative and competence to successfully drive projects to meet deadlines and provide deliverables
- Kemin Microbiology Job Needs to be flexible and be able to handle ever-changing priorities while demonstrating attention to detail, and good technical judgment
- Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels of management within a team environment on a variety of programs and projects
Working Conditions: The position is based at Kemin Industries Discovery Research headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. This position is considered to be 40 hours per week, but requires flexibility and may require operations monitoring on off-shifts including weekend and holiday work.
