Responsibilities
- DNA/RNA Extraction: Utilizes commercial DNA and RNA extraction kits on samples where reagents are pipetted into samples in a specific order, centrifugation of samples, and ultimate resuspension of DNA/RNA in purified water.
- Media Preparation: Understands the bacterial growth medium recipes, measurement, and dilution of solid and liquid medium reagents into water, autoclaving, and proper storage of completed media.
- Sample Organization, Indexing, and Storage: Applies unique labels based on established lab sample labeling system and stores/retrieves samples using a laboratory index.
- DNA/RNA Quantification: Understands liquid dilutions, use of a nanodrop spectrophotometer to quantify DNA and/or RNA concentration.
Required Qualifications
- Basic Biology (introductory college level).
- Basic Chemistry (introductory college level).
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience/training.
