About the Company:
Berkeley Lab’s (LBNL) Biosciences Area Office (BSAO) is seeking a Senior Research Associate for laboratory operations. The position involves supporting Principal Investigators and Researchers to ensure efficient research operations and laboratory safety, with a focus on the Emery Station East (ESE) Microbial Strain Archive.
Job Title: Senior Research Associate (Laboratory Operations)
Location: Bay Area, California, United States
Job Description: The Senior Research Associate will work with stakeholders to maintain laboratory operations, ensure safety protocols are followed, and support the management of the Microbial Strain Archive.
Responsibilities:
- Implement routine operations procedures and maintain databases for service agreements and safety requirements.
- Assist in laboratory resource management, equipment maintenance, and vendor interactions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to address research operations and safety issues.
- Manage the chemical inventory system and serve as the custodian of the Strain Archive.
- Retrieve and deliver microbial strain samples for research purposes.
- Develop protocols for microbial strain storage and documentation.
- Prepare and distribute Material Transfer Agreements as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in microbiology, workplace safety, and proficiency in using web-based data and office software.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a laboratory setting.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or related field.
- Experience in laboratory operations, bacterial and yeast strain storage protocols, and JIRA Service Management.
