You must hold either:
- A HNC/HND level qualification (or equivalent) plus substantial work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role
- A BSc (or equivalent) in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or other relevant subject plus work experience

Purpose of the Post

- A key objective of Tanai’s FLF programme is the establishment of a long-term evolution experiment in cyanobacteria.
- A similar long-running experiment has been carried out in E. coli for over three decades by Prof. R. Lenski. This has provided an unprecedented high-resolution view of genome evolution.
- It is the first time that a similar experiment will be done in photosynthetic bacteria.
- This long-term experiment will be your key responsibility. The post holder will maintain and monitor continuous cultures of several distinct strains of cyanobacteria with different growth properties, and under distinct growth conditions, for an initial period of four years.
- Imperial College London The post holder will be in charge of collecting and processing samples for genome sequencing, keeping a careful catalogue and stocks of an evergrowing number of samples, at regular intervals.
- The post holder will also liaise with the sequencing/DNA
synthesis company to manage orders and oversee the timely arrival of samples for sequencing and delivery of genomic data and synthetic DNA.
The post holder will join the Molecular Evolution Lab as a key member, work together with, and provide technical support to, research staff and students within Tanai’s FLF programme. - This might include supporting with culturing microorganisms, mutagenesis, protein purification and sample preparation, overseeing the logistics of the group, purchasing and managing the group’s consumables and resources, and providing training to new staff and students when relevant.
- The post holder will also have the opportunity to undertake specialised technical, project managing, or other relevant training courses or workshops to expand your expertise and develop your career.

Willingness to develop and improve procedures and techniques relevant to Dr. Cardona’s FLF programme
