Harvest Lab Intern – Manteca
Position Purpose
Under general supervision, the Lab Intern performs lab analyses utilizing a variety of techniques and equipment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to; wet-bench chemistry, instrumentation chemistry, research and development, report writing, developing and/or giving presentations, lab cleanliness and organization.
Essential Duties
- Performs chemical analysis of grapes, juice, fermenters, wine
- Operates analytical instrumentation according to standard operating procedures
- Pulls samples from tanks as necessary
- Executes wine fining trials
- Makes standards and stock chemicals
- Performs data entry
- Monitors inventory of lab supplies
- Completes daily laboratory startup including:
- calibration of certain instruments
- standardization of chemicals
- May complete lab shutdown following the lab SOP, based on location

Non-Essential Duties
- Participates in blend evaluations, tasting panels and sensory projects
- Maintains a strong customer service relationship with our internal customers
- Maintains cleanliness and organization within the lab

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Enology, Food Science, Biology, or other science related field
- One year lab experience preferred
- Chemistry experience in the wine industry, a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong reading, writing, communication and math skills
- Ability to work any shift (day, swing or graveyard)
- Ability to work overtime, as needed
- Ability to work well with others
- Must be able to work rapidly and accurately, performing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience with Microsoft Office

Working Conditions
- Work is performed within the analytical laboratory in a temperature-controlled environment as well as outdoors in the elements
- Outdoor working conditions may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit in summer and can go below 40 degrees Fahrenheit during winter

- Occasional exposure to fumes, gases and dust may occur
