Molecular Microbiology/Bacterial Gene Editing Intern

Internship Summary:
This summer intern will assist in the molecular construction of the recombinant plasmid-based tools for gene editing. Genetic modifications of the bacterial pathogen will be carried out followed by screening potential gene deleted vaccine candidates.
Internship Job Duties:
- Assist in bacterial growth media preparation
- Growth of bacterial pathogens
- The molecular construction of recombinant plasmids
- Transform bacterial cells with the genetic material.
- Perform PCR/qPCR.
- DNA/protein sequence analysis.
Internship Qualifications:
- BS, MS or Ph.D. student with molecular biology/ microbiology or related fields
- Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques.
- Experience with bacterial culture.
- Interested in bacterial genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics.
- Enrolled in a degree program during the Spring term preceding internship
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies and a 3.0 GPA or higher
- At least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the U.S.
- Successfully pass a background check and drug screen
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving & analytical skill
