THE POSITION

The Preclinical and Translational PKPD Department at Genentech, Inc. is looking for an exceptional laboratory-based scientist to work in the investigative PK group in South San Francisco for a summer internship. The candidate will be responsible for investigating the pharmacokinetics, biodistribution, and PKPD relationships of novel therapeutics in preclinical models to support early and late stage drug development. This includes in vitro microscopy, radio-uptake assays as well as radiolabeled tissue distribution studies. Another important component of the job will be to support and further drive the drug delivery strategies within immune oncology, ophthalmology and neurobiology indications. This will be accomplished by working in close partnerships across various functions including Research, Safety Assessment, PD Biomarker, Assays, Clinical Sciences, Formulations, and Regulatory.

Who you are:

You are expected to have strong skills in biochemistry, basic pharmacology and in PKPD, and the ability to integrate meaningfully biology and pharmacology into PKPD models. The candidate must have experience working on project teams and demonstrated the ability to work independently and effectively. The candidate should be an innovative and analytical thinker. Strong communication and collaboration skills are also essential for this position as is the ability to distill complex issues, and to clearly articulate solutions. We are looking for individuals with strong enthusiasm about taking a hands-on approach, being a team player, and leading the science in PKPD and drug delivery. The candidate will also be expected to actively participate in study protocol submission, data analysis and report writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A PhD in Biology, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry or related discipline.
  • Previous hands-on experience in confocal microscopy, immunolabeling, spectroscopy and analytical biochemistry is critical.
  • Must have demonstrated a general working knowledge of analytical techniques, receptor biology, antibody production/purification techniques and basic laboratory skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are important as well as demonstrated effectiveness in a team setting.

For Colorado-based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is [21/hr – 50/hr].  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  This position also qualifies for the benefits listed below.
