Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad or undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

• Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or PhD program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
• Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
• Enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
• Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
• Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree concentration(s) in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or bioinformatics.
• Experience working in a molecular biology lab.
• Familiarity with next generation and long-read library prep and sequencing.
• Familiarity with bioinformatic analysis and/or signal processing analysis.

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. During this program, you will utilize long-read sequencing technology to study the epitranscriptome to help elucidate disease mechanisms. The graduate or undergraduate intern will work in the Research Biomics group in South San Francisco as part of the next-generation sequencing group, where we leverage cutting-edge sequencing technologies for drug discovery. The intern will have the opportunity to work in both the wet and dry lab, generating analyzing sequencing data, including:

• Cell culture and treatment
• Isolation and QC of nucleic acids
• Library prep/QC or setting up sequencing runs in internal sequencers
• NGS data alignment, QC, and analysis
• Poster or project presentation in the group meeting
