  •  3-year PhD position at the University of Graz (gross: 2460,-/month x14, net: ~1800,-/month x 14)
  • An exciting project in a diverse and collaborative environment in an internationally established working group (Group of Biocatalytic Synthesis; the lab of Prof. Wolfgang Kroutil, University of Graz)
  • You will be trained in innovative techniques ranging from biocatalysis, organic synthesis and bioinformatics, to molecular biology and analytical methods
  •  You will gain experience in applying modern high throughput methodologies and enzyme engineering

► Your Profile

  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in organic chemistry, biochemistry or a related discipline
  •  Eligible as a graduate student at University of Graz (Austria)
  •  Experience and sound knowledge in organic synthesis, biotransformations and enzyme expression
  •  Any additional experience in one or more of the following topics is beneficial: molecular biology, analytical methods (HPLC, GC, NMR) or bioinformatics (e.g., Pymol, Yasara, BLAST)
  •  Excellent spoken and written English
  •  The ability to work both independently and as part of an international research team

► Your Tasks

  • Synthesis of new substrates and reference compounds; development of analytical methods
  • Cloning, expression and characterization of new biocatalysts
  • Design of enzymatic cascades by combining multiple biocatalysts in one pot
  • Upscaling and application of novel biocatalytic systems to produce pharmaceutic target compounds
