They are responsible for the engineering, production, assessment, and final selection of large molecule drug candidates that advance to Process Development.

Basic Qualifications for Amgen PhD Life Science jobs
Doctorate degree OR Master’s degree and 4 years of scientific experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications for Amgen PhD Life Science
- Doctorate in life sciences, chemical/biochemical engineering, or a related field
- Experience in synthetic biology in eukaryotic cells, especially massively multiplexed approaches
- Successful implementation of high throughput, library-based protein or cell engineering strategies
- Strong skills in informatics and analysis of large data sets including scripting and/or programming languages

- Independently design, engineer, and assemble protein expression constructs and expression vectors for diverse protein classes in mammalian expression hosts.
- Act as a scientific leader with the ability to drive innovation, lead projects and teams, solve technical problems, and work both independently and across functions.
- Develop and implement innovative technologies to improve the efficiency and speed of the processes in the Biologics Optimization organization.
- Work with large data sets and modern informatics tools.
- PhD Life Science candidates should Design high throughput workstreams and carry out work using automated equipment.
- Provide scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participate in internal and external scientific meetings.
Required Skills
- Deep understanding of molecular biology, especially as applied to recombinant protein production
- Experience with modern DNA cloning techniques, e.g., Golden Gate or Gibson cloning
- A track record of innovation as evidenced by patents and/or peer-reviewed publications
