- Process biological samples for measurement of metabolites by mass spectrometry.
- Analyze data and troubleshoot experiments.
- Conduct experiments in the laboratory by taking measurements, recording observations, and collecting, compiling, processing, and interpreting data.
- Prepare stock solutions of reagents and ensure continuous sample processing.
- Independently evaluate, troubleshoot, and apply scientific procedures and techniques, consulting with Professor Gelb when needed.
- Provide written and oral status reports to the PI and participate in lab meetings.
- Coordinate the flow of biological samples with collaborators, UW Chemistry Shipping and Receiving, and other Gelb staff.
- Assist in managing supply purchasing, safety, and organization.
- Safely process laboratory waste per UW EH&S guidelines and standards while maintaining accurate records.
- Participate in the preparation of papers, presentations, and other scholarly reports.
- Collaborate with team members within and outside the University on ongoing projects, taking the lead as appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry or a scientific discipline and one year of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry and at least one year of relevant, progressive research experience, including experience with measurement of metabolites by mass spectrometry.
- Strong motivation to excel in laboratory research and sample processing.
- Competency in data analysis and experience with MS Office or comparable software.
- Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in conducting scholarly research.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a willingness to collaborate.
- Self-motivation, enthusiasm, and drive for success.
