Computational Biology position @ University of Adelaide

This position is located within the team of Associate Professor Luciano Martelotto at the recently founded Adelaide Centre for Epigenetics (ACE). We are inviting high-achieving postdoctoral researchers to join the newly formed Martelotto Single Cell and Spatial-Omics Laboratory. The collaboration will concentrate on applying and developing new computational methods in the respective field.

This is a full-time, fixed-term Computational Biology position at Level B.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Proven Competence in Computational Biology: Candidates should have a strong track record in computational biology, specifically applied to single-cell and/or spatial-omics.
  • This should be backed up by experience in developing computational methods or technologies relevant to this field.
  • Publication and Presentation Proficiency: Candidates are expected to have a substantial portfolio of high-quality publications and conference presentations. The extent of their achievement should be in line with the opportunities they’ve had.
  • Independent Research and Leadership: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research, particularly in leading research projects. Preferably, this should be in the fields of cancer systems and/or developmental biology using high-throughput genomics.
  • Experience in Managing High-Performance Computing and Big Data: Demonstrated experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and virtual machine (VM) management is vital. Candidates should also be familiar with administering big data, reflecting their ability to manage extensive research datasets efficiently.
    Grant Application Success: A history of preparing and submitting successful proposals to external funding bodies is essential. This showcases the candidate’s ability to secure funding and their understanding of the grant application process.
  • Mentorship and Supervision: Candidates should have a proven ability to mentor postgraduate and honours students in the research area. This includes demonstrating the ability to guide their research and academic progress. Furthermore, the capability to supervise research-support staff, ensuring efficient operation within the research team, is key.
  • Selection Criteria: Candidates must address selection criteria point by point providing specific and practical examples.
