Job Description
- Protein purification (mAbs, therapeutic & reagent proteins) by various chromatography methods
- Use and troubleshoot the AKTA suite of FPLC instruments, Unicorn software, Tecan liquid handler
- Analytical characterization of proteins by SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, and analytical SEC
- Perform high-throughput sample testing in an organized and timely manner
- Quantitate proteins by UV and BCA assay
- Dialyze and concentrate proteins using standard methods
- Sterile filtration and vialing
- Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks, prepare precise technical report summaries, analysis and maintain appropriate documentation
- Basic Laboratory management, multitasking, and experimental troubleshooting
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in scientific discipline with emphasis in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or related disciplines with 1-3 years of hands-on experience
- Training and experience with protein purification techniques and instrumentation (AKTA Unicorn suite, Tecan liquid handler, HPLC)
- Working knowledge of and/or skills in protein characterization (SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, SEC, protein quantitation, buffer preparation)
- Ability to perform basic dilution and stoichiometric calculations
- Ability to work independently with ambiguity and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
- Attention to detail and good oral and written communication skills required
Additional Information
- Work environment: the person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Candidates located within a commutable distance of Kalamazoo, MI are encouraged to apply.
- Position is full-time, first shift, Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with some variation as needed.
