Job Title: Scientist I – DNA Identity Testing Division

Location: Burlington, North Carolina, United States of America

Position Summary:

As a Scientist I, you will be part of the Research and Development team that partakes in the development and optimization of DNA and antibody testing procedures for transplant testing in the HLA department. The candidate will be scientific lead on development of Next Generation Sequencing tests for PacBio and Illumina platforms as well as other molecular methods to meet project deliverables within the division.

Candidates given best consideration will have the following:

  • 2-3 years of assay development – HLA testing or immunology highly desired
  • Experience in various molecular techniques, including DNA/RNA sequencing, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, and probe capture
  • Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) bench work and platforms – Independent analysis of NGS data highly desired
  • Experience with assay design and optimization
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision

Other Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research on R&D projects with limited oversight through the development process and transfers developed or optimized products to the HLA testing laboratory.
  • Constructs and follows project plans, recognizes and interprets deviations from expected results, and designs subsequent experimentation.
  • Writes standard operating procedures and validations with limited oversight.
  • Work closely with R&D Director, Bioinformatics, Operations, and other scientific staff in a team environment.
  • Analyze, critique, and interpret results.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensible experimental notes.
  • Read primary scientific literature to help develop and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Generate data sufficient to be included in patent or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Present posters and platform presentations internally and externally.
  • Coach and assist junior researchers in Research and Development.

Education Requirements:

Ph.D. with 0 – 3 years’ work experience relevant to position preferred or relevant PostDoc (or equivalent experience).

Non-Ph.D. candidates should have equivalent R&D experience within a clinical diagnostic laboratory in a relevant Science discipline. Experience may be substituted for education.
