Job Summary
As the Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead, you will perform complex analyses on various sample types, utilizing independent judgment to generate acceptable test results. In addition, you will serve as the lead by managing workflow, mentoring others, and acting as a clinical and technical resource.
Principal Responsibilities And Tasks
Independently performs responsibilities of MLS I, MLS II and MLS III.
- Leads quality improvement initiatives as a member of a multi-disciplinary patient care services team
- Develops and leads efforts to improve regulatory compliance within and beyond the department
- Assists leadership team with interviewing, orienting, training, and supervising
- Provides input to leadership team for performance evaluations and corrective actions
- Collaborates with leadership in identifying gaps and opportunities for professional development and strategic organizational initiatives
- Facilitates in creating a positive departmental culture
- Assists leadership in identification and resolution of complex clinical and operational issues
- Responsible for regulatory and accreditation agency preparation and participation
- Performs duties as assigned related to the job description
Qualifications – Laboratory Scientist Jobs
Education and Experience
- Three years of clinical laboratory experience + Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, biology, or related sciences
- OR 5 years of clinical laboratory experience + an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, basic sciences, or related field
- Completion of Military Laboratory Technician program with relevant experience
- ASCP or equivalent preferred
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Proficient knowledge of laboratory processes, testing and analytical procedures and techniques, and various specialized laboratory equipment
- Working knowledge of word processing and laboratory information systems; experience in laboratory information systems is highly desirable
- Proficient organizational and problem-solving skills
- Highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written computer skills
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
Patient Safety
- Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient initiatives
- Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety
- Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority
- Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices, and communicates the same to those in charge
