Postdoctoral Fellow Vacancy The Center for Refining and Advanced Chemicals at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia is soliciting applications for a postdoctoral position focused on Plastic Waste management or plastics based circular economy. This position is designed to expand our research initiatives towards sustainability and contribute to the developments of plastic upcycling, polymer pyrolysis, depolymerization, and the promotion of a plastic-based circular economy. Research opportunities include:
● Plastic Waste Upcycling: Explore novel approaches to transform plastic waste into valuable resources using innovative upcycling techniques, such as advanced pyrolysis, catalytic depolymerization, and chemical conversion processes.
● Polymer Pyrolysis and Depolymerization: Investigate pyrolysis and depolymerization strategies to break down complex plastic waste into simpler chemical components suitable for the synthesis of new materials.
● Circular Economy Strategies: Develop and assess strategies for integrating plastic waste into circular economy models, emphasizing sustainability, reusability, and resource efficiency.
Qualifications
Potential candidate should have obtained a Ph.D. (2021 or later) in chemistry, chemical engineering, material
science or relevant field, with strong background evidenced from scholarly publications and conference presentations. Required skills include:
● Expertise in plastic waste management, polymer chemistry, polymer characterization, and sustainable
materials.
● Contribute to the development of innovative strategies for plastic waste upcycling and circular economy solutions.
● Experience in computational chemistry, molecular modeling, or simulation techniques applied to chemical transformations.
● Excellent and effective communication skills and ability to work with interdisciplinary team members. Only candidates who satisfy the below criteria will be considered for the position:
● Recent graduate (2021 or later)
● Ph.D. granting university ranked in the top 200 universities as per QS Ranking
● High GPA (preferably > 3.5/4) with NO low grades (D or F) in BS, Master or Ph.D.
● Strong publication record
