Senior Scientist – Molecular Biology at Constructive Bio
Overview of the Role
We are looking for a talented molecular biologist to join our team at Constructive Bio. As part of the Synthetic Genomics team, the Senior Scientist will work collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, and bioinformaticians to further develop our proprietary technologies for genome synthesis and large DNA assembly. The role involves creating designer organisms with programmable phenotypes, offering an excellent opportunity to have a significant impact on the development of our platform.
Responsibilities
- Development and deployment of proprietary technologies for large-scale genome engineering and rewriting.
- Independent design and execution of experiments for DNA manipulation and assembly, with a focus on prokaryotes.
- Collaborate closely with experimental and computational colleagues to achieve company objectives.
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in genome synthesis and large DNA rewriting.
- Record, analyze, and interpret data, and communicate progress effectively.
Requirements
- A PhD degree with significant experience in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or related fields.
- Proficiency in DNA cloning techniques like Gibson, GoldenGate assembly, or equivalent.
- Experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data, particularly Illumina and/or Oxford Nanopore.
- Strong understanding of molecular biology techniques for DNA manipulation in prokaryotes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of bacterial genetics, tools for genome annotation, and genomic databases.
- Familiarity with laboratory automation equipment and high-throughput molecular biology workflows.
- Experience in line management or project management.
