Job Title: Production Microbiologist
Required Experience
- Bachelors of Science degree (Biology/Microbiology, preferable concentration) with two years relevant lab experience OR
- Associates degree (Biology/Microbiology/Lab Technology, preferable concentration) with 6 years relevant lab experience.
Duties
- Propagates spore populations using aseptic, scientific techniques following the guidelines of AAMI, ISO, FDA, and the USP.
- Determines disposition of spore crops according to microbiological tests including gram-staining, morphological characterization, death kinetics, and population.
- Prepares a spore suspension for inoculation on a carrier material.
- Reworks spore suspensions are not within described specifications.
- Performs pre-qualification testing of the spore suspension, media, carrier material, and packaging materials to ensure material compatibility and performance viability.
- Completes forms and reports documenting spore production activities to complete the Device History Record (DHR).
- Calibrates, verifies, cleans, and maintains equipment (including associated documentation) on a regimented basis.
- Multitasks and completes daily schedule of equipment calibration, spore production, prequal testing, and nightly clean up.
- Completes process studies investigating biological dynamics and/or equipment capabilities and documents findings in reports.
- Assists peers in the review of calculations for documentation accuracy.
- Trains new hires in Spore Production responsibilities.
- Completes tasks and projects assigned by management.
Position Summary
The Production Microbiologist is a scientist responsible for the propagation, harvest, and suspension of spore crops generated at the Pinecone Biological Operations facility. Exercising scientific technique, the individual generates the critical component for the Biological Indicators (B.I.’s) manufactured on-site.
