Education & Experience levels:

  • Masters/Bachelor’s degree in Toxicology, Chemistry, Biology or other life sciences.
    A minimum of 3 – 4 years experience in a chemical regulatory role in a related industry or chemical manufacturing operation
  • Requires strong analytical skills and the ability to accurately manage large amounts of detailed information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team atmosphere and to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn complex databases; Attention to computer-use ergonomic issues.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Promotes an understanding of customer requirements and expectations.
  • Able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple assignments concurrently.
    Experience working with multiple customers.
  • Reprioritizes work quickly to meet changing demands. Must be motivated to learn on the job and take initiative for training.

Nature of experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in global hazard communication requirements and chemical control laws.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency, contagious optimism, and a “can-do” attitude.
  • Is strategic, astute, and forward-thinking. Inspires motivates and collaborates with others.

Knowledge Required:

  • Familiarity with Chemical Regulations like GHS, REACH, Safety Data Sheet requirements, etc.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EMS. ISO guidelines.
  • IATA DGR certification preferred.
  • Preferred knowledge in WERCS and/or Agile SQL, SAP.

Skills:

  • Must be able to manage the workload to meet standard response times and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft suite skills. Should be comfortable with MS-Excel and MS-Access.
  • Strong English skills. Additional language skills (European or Asian) will be an added advantage.

Role & Responsibilities Thermofisher Biology job:

Purpose:

  • The incumbent will be responsible for Product Stewardship activities relating to the sale, import and use of the company’s products. This includes conducting hazard assessments, authoring Safety Data Sheets and product safety labels, classifying products for transport.
  • Assessments will be made on known reagents and mixtures as well as conducting quantitative and qualitative modeling for novel chemistries.
  • The incumbent will also be responsible for implementing and managing in-house tools and software systems related to Dangerous Goods compliance.
  • The position will represent the Thermo Fisher Scientific product line in all markets and requires an awareness of and ability to implement global Dangerous Goods strategies.

Responsibilities for Thermofisher Biology job:

  • Conduct Product Stewardship assessments for new and existing products, including hazard assessment/SDS authoring, labeling requirement, transport classification and support of global chemical import notifications and registrations.
  • Identify and classify Dangerous Goods in accordance with IATA, 49 CFR, ADR, IMDG, and TGD.
  • Provide recommendations to product managers on opportunities for de-classification of Dangerous Goods
  • Conduct training for associates involved in packing and shipping of Dangerous Goods in accordance with the applicable regulations
  • Conduct toxicity assessments utilizing existing databases, QSAR and other available tools
  • Support global chemical notification and registrations, including but not limited to TSCA PMNs and EU REACH registrations.
  • Interact with federal, state, local and international agencies governing product regulations and laws
  • Provide regulatory support to internal and external customers including proactive engagement with the R&D teams to seek innovative solutions to reducing product and/or process hazards.
  • Supports all Enterprise Product Lifecycle Management tools and requirements
  • Provide interpretive guidance on global regulations
  • Assist in development and implementation of policies, objectives, plans and procedures for Dangerous Goods programs
  • Conduct “on-site” Dangerous Goods audit and productivity projects
  • Assists other employees in the accomplishment of Thermo Fisher company goals.
  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
  • Participates in and completes company-required training programs. Participates in EH&S initiatives as set forth by the company.
  • Communicate with Thermo Fisher R&D staff to ensure detailed compositional and physical property data needed for the product’s hazard assessment are provided.
  • Work with the company’s toxicologists to ensure product’s hazards are adequately evaluated and addressed on the SDS and labels as needed.
  • Determine U.S. and International transportation hazard classifications. Understand laws and regulations (e.g. OSHA, GHS, REACH) governing SDS authoring, downstream chemical distribution, and hazardous chemical management within the Environmental Health and Safety industry.
  • Responsible for examining product formulation and documentation necessary for proper hazardous characterization
  • Maintain product updates in an internal data repository Assist in team projects.
