Description
Corteva Agriscience is responsible for developing new active ingredients and formulated products in order to remain competitive in current and future market conditions. The person in the Biological Assay Development role will be creating and developing analytical assay methods to characterize formulations, production processes, and delivery systems for both new and existing Corteva active ingredients in our Biological Business. The active ingredients we work with include microbes, nucleotides, viruses, proteins, enzymes, extracts, and naturally sourced molecules. This individual will collaborate with other functions in Corteva R&D to explore, test, and implement new delivery concepts, as well as advance successful technologies and product concepts through the stage-gate pipeline for commercialization. Additionally, this person will provide subject matter expertise and support for technology transfer, quality control, and manufacturing processes for these methods.
Primary Responsibilities-What You Will Do:
- Exploration, proof of concept, and development of analytical methods for new and registered active ingredients.
- Collaboration with other functions across the company to achieve maximum success, including analytical R&D, process development, application technology, biology, agronomy, regulatory, operations, and commercial teams.
- Collaboration with external companies or universities to assess new and promising technologies for agricultural applications.
- Keeping up to date with new discoveries and technologies in formulation and delivery system technologies, analytical methods, and automation.
- Capturing intellectual property (IP) and writing and presenting research reports.
- Adhering to laboratory safety procedures.
- Leading junior team members and guiding their professional development.
- Supporting production introductions, technology transfers, and product launches as required.
Other responsibilities include:
- Under minimal guidance of senior colleagues, develops hypotheses, plans and executes effective experiments, generates reproducible data, interprets results, and modifies hypotheses appropriately.
- Consistently applies sound scientific methods to solve technical problems.
- Qualifies new active ingredient and raw material sources and supports shelf-life date extensions for existing products.
- Develops understanding of customer needs through discussion with formulations, application technology, and analytical team and works towards meeting the needs.
- Develops an understanding of competitors and key competitive technologies. Uses knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of competitive products to identify opportunities for competitive product positioning.
Qualifications
What Skill You Need:
Education
- Ph.D., MS, or BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Biology, Food Science, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, related fields or relevant experience.
Experience/Competencies:
- Demonstrated competence in analytical method development, especially in the area of microbial enumeration concepts.
- Experience working with biological actives and developing biological products.
- Experience with analytical or high throughput equipment including liquid handlers, plating, colony counting, etc.
- Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to successfully partner with team members and stakeholders (sales, marketing, R&D, regulatory, product stewards, etc.) from multiple backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to persuade/influence others of the value of Corteva technology. Ability to clearly articulate the value of technology when talking with customers.
- Working knowledge of formulation design & development and product processes.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with HTP technology (i.e. Hamilton Venus software) and digital tools
- Prior experience in research or manufacturing/engineering
- Advanced statistical analysis capabilities
